Basically nectar of various flowers. Also picks off
insects from vegetation

Reproduction
|
Two pale eggs in a delicate, cup-shaped nest of thin
plant material well hidden in foliage. Incubation
about two weeks. The birds cover a wide range in the
non-breeding period.

Remarks
|
Conspicuous white circle around the eyes. Male and
female plumage alike. Numbers have declined from an
estimated 300 pairs in 1975 to about half that number
in 1990.
Illustrated ion a 4 cent stamp and a calendar published
